Eric Gary

Success Story

Sixty-five-year-old Eric Gary from Inman, S.C., fell one evening in his home. Unable to move his arms or legs while on the floor, a family member assisted him. “The feeling to my arms and legs returned quickly, so I didn’t think much of it at the time,” Eric says. However, two weeks later, he started having neck pain and an unsteady gait once again. Eric went to see his primary care physician, who directed him to the ER for a possible stroke. The ER determined that he did not have a stroke, but a neurosurgeon diagnosed Eric with a severe neck injury that would require surgery.

Eric underwent C2-7 laminectomies, where the doctor enlarged the spinal canal to relieve pressure on his spinal cord and nerves. His surgery went well; however, he suffered from weakness in his right upper and lower extremities. The neurosurgeon explained that medical rehabilitation would help speed up his recovery.

Eric and his wife chose Spartanburg Rehabilitation Institute (SRI) for his rehabilitation. “It was the best decision we made,” he says. “If it wasn’t for God and the staff at SRI, I would not be where I am today.”

Eric continues his recovery at home, improving daily with the assistance of home health. He looks forward to spending time with his grandchildren, going to the flea market, and working in the yard.
